Brick calculator
Estimate a single layer of bricks with repeating mortar joints.
Formula
Bricks = ceil[A × (1 + extra/100) / ((L + j)(H + j))]
Net wall area: 100 ft² · Brick length: 7.625 in · Brick height: 2.25 in · Mortar joint: 0.375 in · Bricks per square meter ≈ 1÷(((7.625 in × 0.0254 m/in)+(0.375 in × 0.0254 m/in))×((2.25 in × 0.0254 m/in)+(0.375 in × 0.0254 m/in))) · Bricks ≈ ceil(((100 ft² × 0.09290304 m²/ft²)×(73.80967143)×(1+(5)÷100))×(1-8.881784197001252e-16))
How to use
- Enter net wall area without openings.
- Enter brick face size and joint width.
- Set extra material and read whole bricks.
Examples
- 80 ft² with an 8 × 2.625 in module needs 549 bricks before waste.
Frequently asked questions
Does this include wall thickness?
One layer only. Calculate each layer separately for a thicker wall.
Are the dimensions nominal?
Enter actual brick dimensions; the tool adds the joint once per dimension.
Is mortar included?
No. Bond, corner cuts and mortar consumption need separate estimates.
