Dividing Exponents Calculator
Divide two numerical powers with the same or different bases.
Formula
Q = aᵐ / bⁿ; if a = b ≠ 0, Q = aᵐ⁻ⁿ
Quotient ≈ (2)^(5)÷(2)^(3)×((2)÷(2))
How to use
- Enter numerator base a and exponent m.
- Enter denominator base b and exponent n.
- Read the quotient; subtract exponents only when the bases match.
Examples
- 2⁵/2³ = 4; 3²/2³ = 1.125.
Frequently asked questions
Must the bases match?
No. Different bases are evaluated separately; aᵐ/aⁿ = aᵐ⁻ⁿ applies only to one nonzero base.
Can a base be negative?
Yes, with an integer exponent. Other negative-base powers are outside the real numerical mode.
What happens at zero?
Zero denominator bases, 0⁰, negative powers of zero and nonfinite results are rejected.
