Scale Calculator
Convert between model and actual length using a scale written as model:actual.
Formula
Model length = actual length × model part/actual part; reverse conversion uses the reciprocal.
Known length: 12 in · Result in centimeters ≈ (12 in × 0.0254 m/in)×(1)÷(50)×100 · Result in inches ≈ (0.6096)÷2.54
How to use
- Choose whether to calculate model or actual length.
- Enter the known length and the model:actual ratio.
- Read the converted length in cm and inches.
Examples
- At 1:50, an actual length of 100 cm becomes 2 cm on the model.
Frequently asked questions
What does 1:50 mean?
One unit on the model represents 50 of the same units in reality.
Can this enlarge a drawing?
Yes. A 2:1 scale makes model lengths twice the actual lengths.
Do area and volume use the same factor?
No. This tool scales lengths only; area uses the squared factor and volume the cubed factor.
