Frequently asked questions

Does an emoji count as one character?

A joined emoji can be one grapheme but several code points; both counts are shown.

What is excluded from the no-space count?

Graphemes made entirely of Unicode whitespace, including spaces, tabs and newlines.

Are these linguistic word counts?

They are Unicode word-like segments. Vietnamese syllables may count separately; this is not a linguistic word analysis.
