Dog Age Calculator
Explore a Labrador-based age comparison; this does not measure your dog's biological age.
Formula
Human-age comparison = 16 × ln(dog age in years) + 31; ln is the natural logarithm.
Model comparison (human years) ≈ 16×ln((5))+31
How to use
- Enter age in years, between 1 and 16.
- Use decimals for part of a year; 18 months is 1.5 years.
- Read the model estimate with its Labrador-specific limits.
Examples
- A 2-year-old Labrador gives about 42.1 human years in this research model.
Frequently asked questions
Is one dog year seven human years?
This equation is nonlinear and gives 31 at age 1. Other comparison charts use different conventions.
Does it work for every breed?
The study examined methylation in 104 dogs, primarily Labradors. This tool adds no breed or size correction.
Does it predict lifespan or health?
No. It uses calendar age, not your dog's DNA test or clinical examination. The 1–16 range is this tool's chosen limit.
