Dog Water Intake Calculator
Compare daily total water with a rough 44–66 mL/kg reference. Keep fresh water freely available.
Formula
Daily total-water reference (mL) = body weight (kg) × 44 to 66.
Dog weight: 44 lb · Daily lower reference ≈ 44×(44 lb × 0.45359237 kg/lb) · Daily upper reference ≈ 66×(44 lb × 0.45359237 kg/lb)
How to use
- Enter your adult dog's weight and unit.
- Read the approximate daily range, including water in food.
- Keep water available; never ration it to match this range.
Examples
- At 20 kg, the reference is 880–1,320 mL of total water per day.
Frequently asked questions
Is this how much the dog must drink from its bowl?
No. Food contributes water, especially wet food. This range describes total water, not a bowl target.
Does it apply in heat or illness?
No individual adjustment is included for heat, exercise, pregnancy, nursing or disease. It is not an IV-fluid dose.
What if drinking changes?
Contact a veterinarian for a marked change, poor drinking or illness. Do not restrict access based on this estimate.
