Metal Weight Calculator
Estimate solid metal mass from shape dimensions and a supplied alloy density.
Formula
m = ρV; plate V = Lwt; cylinder V = πd²L/4; sphere V = πd³/6
Length (plate/bar): 3 ft · Width or diameter: 4 in · Plate thickness: 0.25 in · Alloy density (example): 490 lb/ft³ · Kilograms ≈ (0.000589934304)×(490 lb/ft³ × 16.01846337 kg/m³/lb/ft³) · Grams ≈ (4.63042211)×1000 · Pounds ≈ (4.63042211)÷0.45359237
How to use
- Choose a solid shape.
- Enter needed dimensions and alloy density.
- Read mass; unused dimensions do not affect the result.
Examples
- A 1 m × 10 cm × 5 mm plate at 7850 kg/m³ weighs 3.925 kg.
Frequently asked questions
Which dimensions are used?
Plate: all three. Cylinder: length and diameter. Sphere: diameter only.
Can it calculate gold weight?
Yes. Enter density for the actual gold alloy; purity alone does not set density.
What about hollow parts?
This tool covers solid shapes. Voids, coatings and manufacturing tolerances are excluded.
