Normal Force Calculator
Find the normal force on a stationary incline when only gravity acts into the surface.
Formula
N = mg cos θ
Mass: 10 kg · Normal force ≈ (10 kg)×(9.81)×cos((0)×pi÷180)
How to use
- Enter mass and gravitational acceleration.
- Enter the incline angle from horizontal.
- Read the normal force.
Examples
- 20 kg with g = 10 m/s² on a 60° slope gives 100 N.
Frequently asked questions
Does this include an extra push or pull?
No. It assumes no other force component perpendicular to the plane.
Must the object be motionless?
It may move along the plane, but acceleration perpendicular to it must be zero.
What happens at 90°?
Gravity contributes no normal force; this alone cannot keep an object against a wall.
