RMS Voltage Calculator
Convert peak voltage to RMS for ideal sine, symmetrical square or triangle waves with zero DC offset.
Formula
Sine: Vrms = Vpk/√2; square: Vpk; triangle: Vpk/√3.
Peak amplitude: 10 V · RMS voltage ≈ (10 V)÷sqrt(2)
How to use
- Choose the waveform.
- Enter peak amplitude measured from zero, not peak-to-peak.
- Read RMS voltage.
Examples
- A 10 V peak sine wave is about 7.071068 V RMS.
Frequently asked questions
What if I know peak-to-peak voltage?
For these symmetrical waves, divide peak-to-peak voltage by 2 before entering.
Is DC offset included?
No. The selected waveform is centered on zero.
Does this work for arbitrary pulses?
No. Pulse width, distortion and other shapes need their own RMS calculation.
