Vinyl siding calculator
Calculate siding coverage with your chosen waste allowance.
Formula
Coverage = area × (1 + waste/100); squares = coverage (ft²) / 100; packs = round up(coverage / pack coverage).
Measured siding area: 1,000 ft² · Usable area per pack: 200 ft² · Area including waste ≈ (1,000 ft² × 0.09290304 m²/ft²)×(1+(10)÷100) · Ordering squares (100 ft²) ≈ (102.193344)÷9.290304 · Whole packs ≈ ceil(((102.193344)÷(200 ft² × 0.09290304 m²/ft²))×(1-8.881784197001252e-16))
How to use
- Total wall and gable areas to be covered.
- Enter waste and the usable coverage per pack.
- Read total area, squares and whole packs.
Examples
- 1,000 ft² plus 10% waste is 11 squares; at 200 ft² per pack, buy 6 packs.
Frequently asked questions

One square is 100 ft², exactly 9.290304 m².
Should I subtract windows?
VSI usually retains ordinary openings as waste allowance; large openings may be deducted. Avoid counting that allowance twice.
Does this include accessories?
No. Trim, starter strips and fasteners need separate measurements; layout affects waste.
