Uncooked to cooked rice
Estimate cooked rice volume from dry white or brown rice using USA Rice’s general yields.
Formula
Cooked volume ≈ dry volume × 3 (white) or × 4 (brown).
Dry rice volume: 1 US cup · Estimated cooked volume ≈ (1 US cup × 0.2365882365 L/US cup)×3 · Cooked volume in US cups ≈ (0.7097647095)÷0.2365882365 · Cooked metric cup count ≈ (0.7097647095)÷0.25
How to use
- Choose white or brown rice.
- Enter dry rice volume and select the actual cup size or mL.
- Read the approximate cooked volume; follow package cooking directions.
Examples
- 250 mL dry brown rice gives about 1 L cooked.
Frequently asked questions
How much does 1 cup of dry white rice make?
About 3 cups cooked, using the same measuring cup. Variety and method change the yield.
Can I multiply grams by the same factor?
No. These are volume ratios, not weight ratios. Water uptake and bulk density differ.
Are all rice cups the same?
No. US cup is about 236.59 mL; metric cup is 250 mL. For a rice-cooker cup, enter its marked volume in mL.
